The poem “Girls Overheard While Assembling a Puzzle,” by Mary Ssybist, is exactly what it says it is – an account of the poet eavesdropping a group of girls assembling a puzzle. The imagery in the poem is highlighted in my publication, as it showcases the bizarre context of the words that the girls are communicating to one another. Overhearing a conversation is a puzzle itself, piecing together different parts of a conversation. Through my manipulation of typography and imagery, the publication becomes an act of overhearing itself. The reader flips back and forth between pages in order to view how each page influences the other, attempting to mentally and physically piece together the book in its entirety.
