In an excerpt from “The Medium is the Massage,” Marshall McLuhan analyzes media's intentions and influence it has on individuals and society. I took use of the existing Speak magazine’s styles and values to integrate McLuhan’s article. My collection of images in relation to one another communicates the constant surveillance that our devices have on us. Our character has begun to be shaped by the flat images in the media that we often view as real. Technology takes into account all of our preferences, providing us with more objects and ideas to further our consumption, and I am intrigued by this idea. These advertisements have been resurfaced with an analog treatment, allowing the viewer to acknowledge that these are not truthful images, as they can be cut, torn, and manipulated.
